Document does not open due to portion of document is corrupted.
Cause:
A portion of the file is corrupted and no backup is available.
Solution:
Copy and paste a small portion of the document at a time from WordPad into Word. Save the Word document after each paste and reopen.
1) Select a small section of the document in WordPad. (Start at the beginning of the document.)
2) Select the 'Edit' menu and select 'Copy'.
3) Open a new document in WORD:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'New...'. (The New dialog box appears.)
b) Click the 'General' tab.
c) Select the 'Blank Document' icon.
d) Click 'Document' radio button in the 'Create New' group.
e) Click 'OK'. (A blank document appears in the document window.)
4) Place the insertion point at the beginning of the document.
5) Select the 'Edit' menu and select 'Paste'.
6) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save'.
7) Reopen the document.
8) If the document reopens, repeat steps 1-7 until the document no longer opens.
NOTE: When the document no longer opens in Word, note the last section pasted into the document and delete that section from WordPad. This will delete the corrupted portion of the document.
9) Save the document in WordPad after the corrupt section has been deleted.
10) Reopen the document in Word.
